The best plastic spray bottles I have found are those sold by Harbor Freight.
I'll give a few of those a try next time I get up to the big city. (y)

I promise I'm not nit picking, did you mean hvlp? I have all 3 types sprayers (all of them ancient). I love hvlp and have about worn mine out and been thinking about new airless advertised to handle fine spay jobs.
No airless, would not paint a car with one. But for spray can type jobs they are exactly whats required.

Well, I was there today. Maybe they were out of the "best". The only spray bottles they had there were for water-based chemicals. It even said on the bottles (2-pack) they were not for solvent based liquids.

But I was able to pick up a few other needed items with a gift card so it wasn't a total loss. (y)

I'm noticing that too and there is no noticeable exterior reason...just seem to run of propellent.

I took me twenty years to see that i could just buy WD-40 by the gallon and then use a spray bottle. i can't even count the wasted cans I bought that were preloaded with a propellant and all those cans went in to the dump. i believe there is a wider market now for reusable, and re-fillable spray cans that can be recharged.

Maybe they no longer have those anymore

Working in a Tool and Die shop we used permanent spray cans that worked well charged by compressed .

That's probably right since they no longer had any of the other great tools when I checked.

I tried a couple I got off Amazon. Those didn't work either. The top seal swelled up with any contact with paint or mild solvent. You couldn't get it back together to refill with air.

The expiration date on at least one of them is March 2000. After 20 years, I wouldn't complain about 'em leaking...
The batteries pictured have been in the jar or several years. I keep them separate from batteries to be recycled because they remind me not to buy those brands, even though, in our area, they are the easier to find. The corroded Duracells and Kirklands in my photo weren't old when put in or taken out of the devices they'd been used in. I put new batteries in my devices. I don't mismatch brands. Now, I don't even mismatch battery batches. Even so, Duracell and Kirkland batteries tend to corrode. I haven't experienced the same problem with some other major brands.
