I've just started shopping for a utility tractor. Swung by a FarmTrac/LG Montana dealer this weekend and was checking the 27-38 hp range tractor sizes.

My base observation is that the operating platforms seem small. I'm not a small person, but not overly big either- 6-2, 230 lbs. The seat and side controls seemed too narrow. Pedal and steering seemed ok.

Is this just me? I haven't had a chance to checkout JD, K, or NH tractors yet, but is this typical for the operating platforms on these utility tractors?

Last tractors I drove regularly were in a completely different league: Allis Chalmers WD 45, 7000, 190XT and a Farmall 666.

Theres two different platforms there, one for the 27hp and 32hp units, and one for the 30 and 39hp units. The 30 & 39 platform is much better, and they are narrow compared to others on the market. 30 &39 hp units have better specs and are the only two I stock (Farmtrac). One complaint I have always had about these machines was "cheap" seat and tightness of controls. Good luck shopping, feel free to ask anymore questions!

These are the following models of the Montana. The 2740 and 3240 are the smaller 3 cylinder models then you have the 3040, 3440hst(3 cyl), 3840 and 3940hst model which has bigger deck space.

I would definitly check out the other brands and then you will get a more accurate feel for what deck space is like in those hp sizes across the spectrum.

Good luck!

If you are looking for a wide open platform check out Century or Branson.
