Hey guys I posted the other thread about the injection pump.

I figured I'd post a thread that isn't labeled so specific to be misleading. This tractor is new to me and so has had me confused with some issues. At first it had a knock in the rear two cylinder engine. Turned out it was fuel related. After I cleaned the injectors it cured 80% of my issues.

It is very hard starting! It will puff white smoke and diesel over and over before it picks up. After it picks up and begins to run it puffs whispy white smoke and just doesn't "sound" healthy running. When I throttle up the engine has a more aggressive "pop" like a mild jake brake until it catches up. More so like a diesel under a good load.

It will puff heavy white until it catches up also.

I pulled compression and they are really close at 325-340#

I am going to pop test the injectors but I can't find any info on what they should pop at??

The engine at idle does not get over 140°

The oil pressure guage shows it's just barely in the green area. So I am concerned about oil pressure. I can hear a weird rapid buzzing or very high rpm tapping type sound coming from the oil filter area.

This thing has me paranoid as I don't want to overlook or ignore something only to have a major engine catastrophe or complete engine failure.

Any help or suggestions is welcomed!

I am going to post updates and answers that I find i find here in this thread. That way others looking for answers might stumble upon it in the future.

Does your tractor have an "idiot light" for the oil pressure as well as the gauge? If so and that light is going out at least you have confirmation of some pressure.
Does the pressure go up with RPM?
The electrical systems on these tractors are of low quality and an abnormal reading should not be trusted. This goes for both oil pressure and engine temp.
There is a good chance that the oil pressure sending unit of the pressure switch for the light has standard NPT threads. If so it is really easy to remove one or the other and connect a mechanical pressure gauge for testing purposes.
140° is not enough for a diesel to run properly plus they don't produce much heat at idle and will run poorly until up to temp. You can check the thermostat in a can or pan of water and a known good thermometer.
Your compression numbers look OK.
I have no data on testing the injectors, hopefully someone else can provide that.

IIRC, the pop pressure is around 2,000 psi. You should hear a crisp "chirp" sound. I used large coffee filters to observe the spray pattern. Also, the injector should not dribble at anytime during and after the pop test. The injector should also hold 1,900 psi for 30 seconds without dribbling. This is all from a CRS memory.
