Good Morning Dave and Eddie,
I hear your concerns Dave !

I took a good look at the eight pieces of slate that I am going to use and it does not appear that the surface variations will cause too much of a problem. Possibly they might be an issue with a very small base champagne glass, but we do not drink champagne.:)

The tiles that I am using are 5/16" thick, and 8 5/8" square. So I am planning on in setting 4 slates in a row, and then there will be an oak cross piece, and another 4 slates. Hopefully I will have something to post picture wise in a few days.

Sorry on the delay of this post !;)

BTW, the intent is that I have the slate as close as possible to the surface of the oak top !

Hello Scotty,

Can't wait to see the finished project.

Good Morning David,
Sorry this project took so long, the only excuse that I can offer is that I did a couple bathroom remodels along with a host of other projects that ate the summer up !

Anyway so four plus months later I finally have Kathleen's bar built. I used white oak, with a few worm holes thrown in for good measure. We tried to keep the whole project simple to go along with the rest of the room. I used the same green slate that I put down in the rear entryway of the family room to complement the top of the bar. Other than some poly on the oak this project is pretty well done !

Scott, I just found the thread and read through it, NICE job! I have a Woodstock Soapstone stove and really love it. It has been the main source of heat for my home for the last 8 years and no complaints. Is your stove just for the addition? Now you will have to get creative with wood storage for the place.

Good Afternoon Eddie and Joey,
Eddie thanks it was a fun project, and will have some fire and snow pictures soon enough !:)

Joey, I absolutely love that stove, it does a great job of heating the addition room and also part of the dinning room. With all the insulation I have in there it gets quite toasty ! Wont be long now !:)
