Thank you Brad_Blazer for posting those links. KretZ is correct in what the media usually tends to report... the old 'If it bleeds, it leads' routine. A story like this should've made international news.
This story exemplifies what it means to live rural. Good neighbours... it's part of what I love about it. I've got them here. Mind you, you have to put a wee bit of effort into having good neighbours by being one yourself.
Here's a quick story. Four months ago I was having my property limed. My next door neighbour (struggling young family) needed lime too but couldn't afford it at that time so I covered them saying that they could pay me back when they could. And they did when they were able.
I then went away on a 3 week trip. During that trip the neighbour found out that an equine dentist was coming to town who was able to do one of my horses (special case, he has a 'parrot mouth' & requires a special gag for the procedure). She arranged for the dentist and made sure the horse was seen to out of her own pocket.
What I'm getting at is that "we" do big things (as in the OP) and little things as a matter of course. I wouldn't want to live any other way. City folk tend not to even know their neighbour's name.
