Vacation time! Taking my daughter to Fairfield the week of 25-30 July. I'm thinking about vacation for me while I'm in the area. What's some neat things to do in the area?? Or should I just keep going to Cape Cod and Boston?

I don't remember seeing this one in the AAA Travel Guide's list of New England attractions.
Sounds to me that's more like a circus sideshow... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It would truly be an honor to meet a person of his stature, fame and notoriety. I am sure the chosen establishment for these luncheons are overly thrilled to have the TBN crew grace their doorsteps. Unfortunately, this event takes place one month PRIOR to my planned departure.

Uh, no. Things have certainly changed since the last time I was there but, no thanks.

We meet every other Thursday at noon, but being that we are both retired, we can make it anytime that you can. Just let us know when you are planning on being in the neighborhood. We will accommodate you..

One of the nice evening trips is the dinner cruise on the railroad in Essex........

Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, 800-377-3987, 860-767-0103. Essex, CT. Several train/boat rides daily in summer and fall, plus special winter excursions, dinner trains, and wine-tasting trips. Train/boat ride $24, ages 3-11 $12. URL: www.essexsteamtrain.com

Thanks for the link, that's the type of stuff I was looking for. Will definitely be the last week of July, other than that, I'll have to permission and see.

Some possibilities are:

1. Take train to Grand Central Station (about 1 hour), see USS Intrepid, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Statue of Liberty...

2. Yale University - New Haven CT

3. Beaches on L.I. Sound

4. Take Ferry from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson L.I. (walk-on passenger)

5. Drive around Greenwich "back country" and gawk at all the 20,000 sq.ft. homes

6. Truck Museum in Southbury

7. Numerous Antique shops and quaint New England small towns.

If you drive to Boston / Cape Cod, beware of heavy traffic on I-95 Thursday - Sunday.

Have fun

Jim
