Rear Finish Mower Fair price on used Bush Hog RDTH72?

I have a Bush Hog RDTH72 (72" rear discharge finish mower) in excellent condition (with the exception of one caster wheel with a slightly bent shaft, no big deal). If I remember right it was bought new in mid 2004. It's stored inside a garage always and is used every so often to mow off large areas of a field. It has not been treated rough. If you saw something like this in a private party sale, what price do you think it would go for? I'm considering replacing it with a 6' rotary cutter since I really don't need this to use as a finish mower. Dealer says if it really is in excellent condition (it is), his trade-in price would be between $800 to $1,000. I'm sure it would go for more in a private sale. What do you think?

By the way, does anyone have an opinion on the Frontier brand 6' rotary cutters?...compared to a John Deere MX6? I read the MX6 to be built stronger, but I don't know what exactly would be much different between those two models. Any thoughts? Don't spend more for the MX6 and get the Frontier instead? Or definitely get the MX6 because ?.....

Around Atlanta the dealer trade in is about what it will bring on Craigslist. No experience with Frontier.

Bought the same model 3 weeks ago off of CL for $750 - had to weld a few places on the lower pin area and change out the oil in the gear box... thought I got a very good deal. How fast do you need to sell it ($1100 for slow and $800 for a very quick deal). Most people on CL is looking for a deal...

I bought a used rhino 72" side discharge in very good condition at an auction 4 years ago for $750, used it for one year and traded it in for a 84", new rhino rear discharge at a dealer. Dealer gave me $1200 for the 72", which surprised me. The new rhino 84" he sold me for $1800 and they are much higher in price now. When the dealer quoted me the price for the deal, he said "I can do it for $600." I thought he meant he would give me $600 for the old 72" mower. I said, "I was hoping for a little more." He said "You want to pay more?" Then I realized the $600 was for the trade in and the new mower. I said a few incoherent words, then said "OK, its a deal"!:thumbsup:

Sounds like the dealer's estimated trade-in value might not be so bad then, especially considering the hassle factor of doing a private party sale. Right now this is just in the 'maybe' stages. I'd love to get a rotary cutter instead of a finish mower...but we'll see. Thanks for the replies.

I bought one (Craigslist) for $1000 last year. It was in new condition, clean and stored under cover (tires still had the pink stripes). I've since sold it to a friend for the same $1000. I think this is the low end of the price range for A+ condition.

Frontier makes "light duty" mowers up to 7' if i'm not mistaken? the MX line of Deere mowers are light duty(LX), medium duty(what the MX6 is) and heavy duty(HX). it really depends what you're planning on cutting with it. i can tell you this, the MX6 is one HEAVY peice of equipment so if you go that route, you want to make sure you have enough weight in the front to counter balance it. if you look around hard enough you can find a good medium duty bush hog that someone paid full price for, used 3-4 times, and needs to sell it for 3/4 of what they paid for it.
