Price Check fair price for B7200HST?

There is a B7200HST 2/4WD for sale locally. It comes with a scraper blade and 60" belly mower. There are only ~680 hours on it. It looks like it's been kept outside for most of its life. It's an 89 model. The paint is badly faded, the mower deck looks a little rough, blades very dull.... The turf tires are weather cracked. The oil filter was clean and looked new, at least on the outside. It started easily and seemed to run well.

I plan to examine it a little more closely.. What are some things I should look for? All I've owned up to this point are riding mowers...

They are asking $7200, which seems a bit steep to me. I was wondering what a fair offering price would be?? I was thinking $4500 to start, maybe going up to $5500. Am I in the ball park?

Sounds high if youhave to replace the tires.

I was only able to get $3700 out of mine in my area. I started out asking $4250 last fall and then listed it for $3950 this spring. It was HST, 4wd, with 834 hrs, with 60" MMM and turf tires. The tires were weather cracked, but still held air. The guy who bought it said he was going to put new tires on it. He said he came out thinking it was a $3500 tractor and after seeing it decided that it was worth more than that so I met him half way. Mine had been repainted by a professional before I bought it 7 years ago, and it had a new seat on it. I think it had set outside quite a bit also.

You might want to check the brackets that hold the MMM on. When inspecting mine we found that one of 2 of them had been welded on with the bolts still in them. They are only supposed to be bolted on. I would also check the air breather pipe. Mine did rub some on a sharp piece of metal, check it to see if it has any holes rubbed thru. Check the decompression pull (black knob on left side of dash) to see if it works. It really helps those old tractors start in the winter. The cable was froze on mine, but I would just open the hood and activate it by hand. Try and find a way to test the locking diff as well. I always had a hard time getting mine to work.

Thanks for the replies. Brier, yours looks nicer than the one I'm looking at. I may offer her $3600 and hope she's not insulted.

Now to a question I probably should have asked first... I am interested in a tractor that will mow, push a little snow in the winter, power a tiller, power a small field mower, power a log splitter, and mount a small loader for moving dirt and gravel. Would a B7200HST be up to the job? I want a tractor capable of doing these tasks, but I don't want to go bigger than I have to...

You might want to consider a tractor with a loader already mounted. You'll probably pay less overall and you won't have to mess around with trying to mount it. I'm not positive but I think most log splitters need a rear hydraulic outlet to operate. I know mine does so you might want to check into that.

I agree with rpraymond, you will most likely get a better deal if you buy a tractor with a loader on it. The B7200 does not have power steering and with a loader on it and full you will have a hard time turning the wheels when not moving. I never had a loader on mine, but I think there is something funky about the loader brackets and mower mount brackets, not sure you might want to do a search on it. I never had aux hyd. either. I know you can hook up aux. hyd. to it, but I don't have the specs anymore on the pump output. It will probably power a log splitter, but it will probably be slow. As for everything else it should do just fine. When I would run a 4' brush cutter I would not connect the center link on the 3pt. I didn't have any extra front end weight and the front tires are just too light on the ground when picking up the brush cutter. I plowed alot of snow and dirt with it though and dug about 30 post holes with it as well. Look in my profile and you can see all the attachments I used with it. It mowed wonderfully and was always a great tractor. I was never hurting for power (with only 17hp), just traction. I was just talking to my dealer the other day and he said Kubota use to underrate their hp numbers. I believe the B7200 would probably be one of those.

I don't know your situation or what the price difference would be for tractors in your area, or how quick you need a tractor, but I would recommend that you look for a tractor with a loader and power steering. You are looking a pretty big price diff. in what they are asking and what you are wanting to pay. I think they are asking a lot, especially if it isn't in that great of shape. I think if you shop around some more you could probably find a better deal. Setting outside can take its toll on a tractor even if the hours are low.

PS. What are the older BX2200 going for around you. They might be a good choice and you should be able to find one with a loader on it. My freind has one and it is a great tractor.

I have a 7200hst with a loader. As has been said, it is a bear to steer with a bucket full of dirt, and mine has a small bucket. I keep a box on the back when doing loader work and still sometimes feel the back lifting if I take too big a bite. I use mine mostly for tilling and moving mulch. I paid 7k for mine with tilt and lift rear hydraulics and a loader a few years ago. I would second the advice of looking for a unit with the FEL and rear hydraulics. Adding them to a used tractor can significantly increase the cost. The 7200hst is a rather light piece of equipment, so you are not going to move a lot of gravel very fast with it.
