I bought a F3680 4400 hrs for other items but decided to look into why no start and lots of smoke. Compression test cyl 1-360 cyl 2-80 cyl 3-310 cyl 4-0. I removed the valve cover and discovered cyl 4 was missing some hardware. Not sure what caused the rocker arm shaft to snap and bracket to fracture along with that the rocker arm and push rod were damaged and removed by previous owner.

Not sure what the cause or sequence of failure was any thoughts? I have access to a complete rocker arm assembly so replacing it is a possibility and maybe resolve cyl 4 compression reading but what about cyl 2 @ 80? Obviously, cyl 4 is an issue I wasn't able to see any obvious signs of valve stem related items when comparing. Not sure how deep I want to go I didn't need an engine any thoughts? Thanks

Thanks

If fuel was still being injected to cyl. 4, it was most likely diluting the engine lube oil some...

The rest of the engine may, or may not have had excessive wear, depending how long it was operated like that?
I would say it's ready for dismantling & inspection.

By the way, just removing the push rod etc. and closing it up like that says a lot about the previous owner.

You oughta call the sumb!tch up that sold it to you and ask him a few questions about what kind of joker sells a tractor to someone with engine parts removed.

Water in the cylinder from a bad head gasket or a cracked cylinder wall, bad enough leak in #4 leading to hydroloic lock. Could have started from overheating.

Are you sure the previous owner removed those parts or are they down in the oil pan? It sounds like you bought in non running condition? If so I guess you take your chances but if the previous owner did take it apart and discover the problem he should have shared that info with you.
