I seem to be having similiar water problems as recent threads. The tractor runs fine for approx 1st hour, but then the temp gauge approaches the "red line" and stops just before entering the dreaded area. At that time the overflow starts to blow bubbles.

After shutting down, the bubbles continue for approx 5 minutes and then the radiator starts to pull back water. I add approx a pint of fluid to the overflow as it is pulled back in while cooling.

I just replaced the radiator cap with a 13# cap. The antifreeze & water stays a nice consistent green color and I don't see signs of any water leakage or contamination.

Any suggestions? Should I be looking at the water pump (if it has one)?

The hours on the tractor shows 600. I have used it for a little over 100. I just replaced oil, hyd fluid & filters.

Do you have coolant flow?

Harry replace your thermostat first, after you flush out the system.

put some prestone power flush in the engine & let it run for 10 minutes, then flush it out with the garden hose for another 10 mins while its running.
Replace the thermostat and hopefully that will cure it.
(I said hopefully)

You hardly ever see the F s overheat.

I have done the above advice to quite a few, and it usually clears up the problem.

As far as I can tell, it runs at normal temp for the 1st hour pulling a rake.

Thanks Ernie! I knew you and Len would provide good input. I'll do as you suggested and let you know.
