I think I got a pretty sweet deal this weekend. I bought a 2002 F150 with 30,000 miles on it. Its pretty much plain jane with a V6, power steering, auto trans. and air conditioning. It's a longbed with a nice fiberglass topper. I gave under 10K for it and on the way home I got 23.5 MPG on the interstate. I paid cash, so still no truck payments. It's the newest vehicle I've ever owned and I plan on putting at least a 100k miles on it. Only time will tell if it was a good deal I guess. I still can't believe the MPG I got. I know the mileage wasn't far off as I was following my wife home and the other vehicle actually said it went 5 miles farther on stock size tires.

Is anyone else getting that kind of mileage with a gasoline powered fullsize truck?

That is outstanding mileage for a full-sized truck. I was envious of my brother-in-law a few years ago when he mentioned around 18 or 19 with his Chev pickup. My old T100 does that only on a good day. My wife's new Nissan crew cab (V6, 5spd) gets about 26 at 55mph, 21 at 65mph.

I have a '93 F-150 with the straight 6 and 5 speed tranny. I can get near to that good of mileage with an empty bed. Put a load in the bed though, it it is no where near that good. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

my 91 f150 gets ave 22.5 no topper, with 5 spd manual. at or below 65, above 75 it really starts to suck the dinosaurs down. but it has brush gaurds, all around as well as several other wind grabbing addon doo dads that were there when I bought it. it had 75K now almost 90K had to replace starter, (which was going when I got it. and both tanks from rust.) paid 1800.00 cash and although not newest vehical I own, (that is my 2002 tractor I bought NEW /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif HAVE to get the priorities straight! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'm getting between 19 & 20 MPG on my '99 Silverado ext. cab. short-bed 4X4 w/ 5.3 V-8, 4 sp auto, and 3.73 gears. Running with a pretty heavy load 6-8k I'll get 14/15 MPG.

The starters on this style F-150 seem to be a routine item. I bought my truck from my father-in-law with 186K miles on it, and had to immediately replace the starter. He had replaced the strarter twice already on it. Just make sure you go to an auto parts store with a lifetime warrantee (Autozone), and you can just keep replacing the starter as needed. I think it took all of about 25 minutes to change the starter on the straight six engine.

23.5 is great for a truck.

I just drove ~ 500 miles and managed only 15 mpg.
But of course that was driving 70-75 mph pulling a 4 klb trailer. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Not to shabby. And no I was not breaking the law, the speed limits in oklahoma are 70 mph, and 75 mph in some places.

Dodge 1 ton with cummings turbo diesel.
I can get 20 empty with a slower speed, but not 23.5.

Currently, the cool thing about diesel is the price. I found a place that was selling for $1.56 a gallon! Man do I wish I had a 200 gallon tank rather than the 35 gallon sometimes, because in other places its just over $1.7.

Oh my! Come on out here! Locally, Diesel is $2.29. Down in Sacramento, I see it for $2.05, and on the main Interstate-5, I saw in the $1.90's.

Diesel has 8cents more tax than gas here. It's about 42 cents on the gallon!

Diesel here in mid-Michigan has stayed at about $1.70 a gallon. While on the subject of F150 mileage back in 1992 I bought a two year old Ford long box pickup with the 4.9 liter straight six, 3.08 gears and the E4OD heavy duty automatic. With no AC, I could get 19 mpg on the hiway at 65. In 1995 I installed a 3 inch Flowmaster cat-back exhaust system and the mileage jumped to almost 21. Hitching up my 6000 lb. 30 foot travel trailer and towing it at 58 mph in drive (no OD) returned 11 mpg. Best darn vehicle I ever owned for the money it cost me.
