Gravity flow ... the 300 gallon tank on a stand (higher than the tractor) and the local fuel company delivers ....

Thats a great idea but I use 45 gallons a year so I guess they could deliver every 6.5 years or so - Might go bad before then!!

You can use the same idea with a 55 gallon drum and it's a lot cheaper.

Since I fill up my BX with 5 gallons at a time, I used th kerosene blue cans and has the epa spout on it. luckly it doesnt leak so I just lift seat forward and tip can into the filler nck and leave it till its done glugging.;) Its the cheapest way I know.

I use a 5 gallon diesel can and a tube to siphon it. That way I just set the can on the hood, stick in a tube, one quick suck to prime and it drains most of the can.

That's my approach, but I put an outboard motor fuel bulb in the middle of the line to do the priming. I still don't like doing it that way and continue to search for an alternative

Thanks and excuse the stupid question but the siphon starts by just shaking the tube - Doesn't seem like that would work?????

there is a metal ball is in the end of the hose that goes in the tank which acts as a check valve. It only lets fuel go one way.

Thanks Aaron - and wiggling it makes enough of a vaccuum to pull some of the deisel up I guess?? Seems like a very simple and efficient solution - I have learned over time that the more simple it is the better for me.

How long to drain 5 gallons??

When you stick it into the fuel, it fills to the level of the fuel, then when you shake it, the fuel starts to move up, which sucks in new fuel from the bottom of the hose. When that "runs out of steam", the check ball keeps the fuel from flowing back out. The next time the hose goes up, the cycle repeats.

As for speed, I don't know, probably depends on how far below the fuel level the end of the hose is.
