I'm wanting to replace the drain plug on my Deere 430 garden tractor with an EZ drain valve. Does anyone know the size and thread pitch? It's time for an oil change, so now's a good time to do a replacement.
Thanks.

It is a metric thread I know because I brought a new one because mine was partially striped. You have to also know that there is a serial number break, the lower serial number ( - 004060) part (CH15382) runs around $3.79. The higher serial number (005001 - ) runs 3.79$ it's p/n CH19995. It is a common problem for the threads to strip. So do you have time to get the new drain valve with the tractor down to get the thread measured and to check the threads? It is what I had to do.

The serial number break is the engine serial number, mine is in the later serial number range.

just wondering, how safe are those things to use. i would be afraid of it opening and draining oil out. not that familiar with them.

It is totally dependent on the application and how protected (or not) the drain plug area is. I have them on 2 of my vehicles, but they are in a protected location above the plastic under-engine shroud. On a tractor, unless protected by a skid plate or a guard, I wouldn't risk it.

I was going to install one. But the location of my drain plugs, on the tractor, is not totally protected. I passed and still use a box wrench.

That area is where the drive shaft for the mower direct operates when attached. If your in tall grass the shaft could pick up an enlarge to break off the valve.

My X738 came with one, Kawasaki V2, its like a petcock on a radiator, 2 qt capacity sump. Its a tight place to get at, had to buy a 10mm box ratchet wrench as you can only turn it 1/2 turn at a time to open/close. Has a 6-inch plastic tube on end to direct the flow down to a pan.

My 2010 X728 had same engine and same oil drain.

Z71 Right, but it is likely not on the bottom side of the oil pan like I believe is the engine on the 430. Think that was the negative thought presented above.

Its front of engine block, horizontal. Unless you put a 100 hrs a year on it, I would not be changing oil all to often. I usually use the best synthetic and change every 5 yrs (100 +- hrs). Some over maintain them with no discernible advantage.
