I have a scar on the left eye from some exhaust pipe rust that blew off whilst pimping down the road on my old AC D-17.

The doc said a couple more mm's and it would have been in my line of sight and impaired my vision.

Now I don't work outside without sunglasses on... they ain't exactly safety glasses but they are much better than nothing.

Over the past couple of years, I have forced myself to switch to safety sunglasses when I'm doing any kind of work outside. I started out with the cheapest safety sunglasses and have worked my way up. My next pair will probably cost me ~$40.00. But, if they aren't comfortable, I won't wear them, and my eyes are worth more than $40.00

At work we are required to wear PPE (personal protective equipment) at all times. IE, Steel toe boots, hardhats and safety glasses. My glasses have removable side shields but I keep them on for everything except weddings and funerals (almost!). The shields really messed with me at first too, it just takes some getting used to. Now I am disoriented when I take them off. It has been my experience the side shields take the most hits. It is the things I don't see coming that seem to whack me from the side.

On the note of glasses.... what really sucks is when you bust out just one lens. If anyone has ever tried to look through a pair of glasses with a lens in one side and open air in the frame of the other side.... now that is screwy! Driving home with one eye closed is an adventure.
