so i was running cat5e in the new house and had it whip back and hit me in the eye. Turns out one of the strands cut a 'flap' into my pupil, right in the middle. Hurts like bastard every time I blink. Worst case scenario I will have a scar which result in a blurry spot in the middle of my right eye. I am sure this could have been prevented with glasses of some sort. However it taught me that a minor mistake can have major consequences. Eye damage is not good.

ouch..been there. Only notice mine when looking at a white (or neutral) wall with nothing on it (like a blank movie screen) then I can see the shape of the scar. Mine came from a stick that got under my safety glasses when originally clearing our property (before tractor, when using loppers, weedwacker, and chainsaw was all I knew).

I'm wearing my safety glasses right this moment...

(No...I don't think the computer is gonna get me...the lenses are just in better condition than my dress glasses...)

I normally wear these glasses 8-10 hours a day and I figure they probably save my eyes some kind of injury or discomfort at least once a week.

I've gotten into the habit of grabbing them every time I reach for tools.

I have clear and smoked saftey glasses I wear year round for just about everything I do around the place.

I wear safety glasses all time. (even now, I AM scared of MY computer!);)

When I get glasses I get safety glasses with my prescription in them. They look like regular glasses (they have removeable side shields that I don't wear, but other than that they look "normal"). I can't count how many hits I have taken in the glasses, that is probably the reason I don't go for lasix, with my luck I would get something poked into one of my beautiful new eyes!

Good luck rhofford, hope everything turns out good for you.

I've had people ask why I don't wear contacts. I figure my wearing of glasses have saved me many times. I used to do a lot of component level electronic work, quite a revelation to see a solder splash centered on a lens and think what would've happened without the glasses.

Oh man.

Not good.

Safety glasses, a good quality brand, are a must for any work.

A buddy of mine this year was splitting wood and a splinter got his sphincter.

Needless to say, glasses could have prevented this.

I hope you get a better recovery.

"There are over 40 different sphincters in the human body; some of these sphincters are microscopic in size." Gee! I just learned something, I always thought there was only one. The point about Lasik is definatly correct. After wearing glasses for 30+ years I had my eyes done. It is great, but I do have to remind myself about safety. Infact I feel a little insecure without them at times.

I suppose glasses could protect the sphincter but only if you were bent over with your head in a very bizarre and compromising position.  :D

Did you mean iris?
