BX 22 trade-up from 2200
Any one in Northern Ohio or Western PA have experience, good or bad, with any of the following Kubota dealers: Middlefield Farm and Garden, Bortnick Tractor, or The Tractor Place? I'm shopping for a BX1800 or 2200. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Frank

Bought my BX1800 at Bortnick's and have been very pleased. I started at Jenks and was dissapointed, my neighbor bought a B2710 from Jenks who had the best deal, not to mention no sales tax since Jenks is in PA and my neighbor and I live in Ohio. I went to Jenks to buy a BX1800 60" mower and the front mounted snowblower, I wasn going to trade my Ariens GT17 with 60" mower, 48" 2 stage snowblower, wheel weights, and weight box. Jenks wanted my tractor and $13,500 for the BX with mower and blower, I told him the price was stiff, he said my tractor was only worth $600, and do I realy need a snowblower when I could use a back blade, which he quoted a price of $10,500 and my equipment for a BX and back blade. I left at this point and decided I was just going to keep my old equipment which according to Jenks was only worth $600. I went to Bortnick and bought the BX1800 with 60" mower, with Ohio sales tax I paid $10,547, on a tractor that stickered for $9950. I also get better service at Bortnick than my neighbor gets at Jenks, when his B2710 reached the 50 hour service mark he had to buy all the fluids and filters and perform his own service, if his tractor needs warrenty work he has to figure out how to load it and trailer it to Jenks, which by the way I might add is only about 10 miles away. From Bortnick I get my 1st 50 hour service for free, they will come to my house and perform the 50 hour service on site for free, this includes all fluids and filters, if I need warranty work they will pick up and deliver because they close, about 10 miles away from me.

I figure I got a good deal, I had to wait about a month and a half because they were out of stock, but then there were lots of folks standing in line waiting for their BX. I did talk to Middlefield about a BX1800 and they quoted my $10,500 plus tax for tractor and 60" mower, they also had 2 of them in stock. I ask him if he would budge on price because Bortnick was $9950, the salesman told me that he had the tractor and Bortnick didn't and if I wanted one he could supply me with one for $10,500 plus tax, if I didn't like the price then wait for Bortnick to get me one. As you might guess I didn't waste my time or money with Middlefield. I also know 2 other people that bought a BX from Bortnick and they are pleased as punch with the tractor and their service.

msocko3 and Blu21,
Thanks to both of you for the helpful advice. Right now it looks like I'm going with Bortnick. In a week or so I'll share my own experience in a more detailed response for the benefit of other readers. Thanks again.

Frank,
I have purchased 2 Kubotas from Middlefield. The first was a B7200, purchased about 13 years ago, and at that time no-one could beat their price. Then just last year I purchased a L4310HST from them. I had to haggle with Pierre, the owner, on price, and got an excellent deal on the tractor. I had the tractor delivered to my farm, approximately 100 miles from MFG. When there was a recall regarding loader hoses, Pierre flew in to the local airport with his mechanic to replace the loader hoses. THATS SERVICE ! When I blew out the power steering hose, they sent a truck down to pick up the tractor, and delivered it after repairs were completed. This was under warranty. I can honestly say I am completely satisfied with Middlefield regarding their pricing and servicing of equipment.

Don,
Thanks for the reply. It seems like you've had a great experience with Middlefield. I ended up buying a BX2200 from Bortnick for the following reasons. 1) When I showed Middlefield the ad they ran in the Heavy Equipment Trader, they said the price "was a mistake" and they wouldn't honor it. The ad had been running continuously for at least 4 weeks. Only when I pressed the point did they finally agree to honor the price. 2) I asked the Middlefield service manager about the Kubota service bulletin that says modifications are needed to the 3 point hitch on some BX units (reported extensively in this forum over the past couple of months). He said he never heard of it. Bortnick was fully aware of it. 3) Middlefield said they would charge for pick up and delivery (both ways) if the tractor needed servicing during the warranty period. Bortnick said no charge - and added that the 50 hour service would be done free - and at my house if I wished. Of the three issues I listed, price was not my biggest concern. I was concerned about the service issues. I would agree, however, that your experience seems just the opposite. Thanks again for your reply.

Frank,
I think you will be happy with your purchase, I've found Bortnick to be easy to work with. Today I called to set up my 50 hr service, I ask Dave if they could also take car of my fuel tank recall while they are at my house, or would they have to take the tractor to the shop. He straight out told me that when they do the fuel tank there will be some fuel spilled even though they try to catch it all, I told him that I don't mind if some fuel gets on the floor of my garage, I use it as a garage, it has had oil and gas and other fluids on the floor. He said they would be glad to take care of everything at my place, they are swamped right now, but after explaining my work scheduel they managed to squeeze me in, I've been pleased as punch with the service sofar.
