Exhaust Muffler

/ Exhaust Muffler #11
Both of the tractors that I use regularly has Vertical exhausts and doesn't bother me at all. The ym2000 and the JD5103. On my 8n Funk the exhaust is horizontal to the rear like a car and that is the only one the exhaust seems to get to me the most. Esp. if I'm moveing slow or sitting still. The 5103 that has a FEL. is the only one IMO. that has the power to even have a FEL. With the vertical stack if i'm in under tree's etc. easy Fix Just reach up and remove the Exhaust pipe and slip it back on when you clear it.

your 8n also is gas and prolly needs that much bend pipe to get the scavenging effect of the backpressure on that 6 or 8 cyl funk.

Is scavenging (Using the inertia of the exhaust gasses to pull clean air into the cylinder) relevant on these antiques? I doubt it. Seems to me the original design specified a pipe large enough to prevent back pressure at maximum rpm so re-routing the exhaust should have no effect short of that maximum rpm.
