You know for once, I agree with you!
After renting a tracked skid steer to cut 12 acres of overgrown farm land (5 more to go), I decided it’s better to rent a skiddy mulcher than buy a mini ex mulcher.
I’m glad I kept the powder dry on that. In fact, I will make more money that way. I only clear land maybe 4-6 times a year.
At $2300 for 50 hours/7 days including mulcher, it was an easy decision. I’ve been renting from them for 10 years.
Only someone compensating for other issues would buy a new mini excavator to use it a few hours a month. Perhaps a contractor needing to look like more than he/she is, or a city guy with a need for toys, etc....

I’m trying my best to break the family tradition on the farm of ‘if it doesn’t burn then bury it’. I know where a couple of covered pits are and both have caused me to alter my plans for new buildings and septics.

I completely understand your reasoning.
At 80 though, I really don't give a chit.
Land will likely be sold for high end residential lots.
They may find a few old treasures!

Story is back in the 90's this was the site of the biggest moonshine bust in the county's history. That's saying a lot for this area... Anyways... they were in pretty rough shape. The first pic is of the pig barn where they used to cook the liquor under the overhang on the right. The second pic is where I have cleaned it up during the last year. I removed that overhang...
