Just curious how the ecr40d has been for you now that you've had a couple years with it? Likes, dislikes? Fuel consumption per hour? I bought a new ec60e bout 2 years ago, I've got about 750 hrs on it now and really like it, no issues to speak of. Thanks

I love the machine. I use it all the time for dirt work, of course, but also use it a lot for logs, trees, etc.

I have had zero issues, with the exception of losing a pin on the quick attach, which is not a machine issue.

YAY well thanks for the update - we figured you would love it

I didn't even think that Volvo made their Excavators, or? I know for sure, they don't make a lot of their branded stuff.

Pictures!

In 1973, the company name changes to Volvo BM AB. In 1985, Volvo BM allies itself with the American manufacturer Clark Equipment and its subsidiary Euclid. The product name Clark Michigan was abbreviated to Michigan and the three brand names Volvo BM, Michigan and Euclid were incorporated in the new company VME Group.

In 1995, VME becomes a fully owned Volvo company and changes name to Volvo Construction Equipment.

In 1998, Volvo CE became the first foreign company ever to invest in Korea. The acquisition of Samsung Heavy Industries (Construction Equipment Division ) strengthened its product offerings and presence in Asia.

In January 2007, Volvo purchases 70% of Shandong Lingong Construction Machinery Co. Ltd. In April of the same year, Volvo also finalizes acquisition of the American company Ingersoll Rand's division for road construction machines.

Almost impossible to understand what's what? And IR got rid of Bobcat? I know JCB makes VOLVO skid steers and tracked loaders.

im guessing samsung makes them but i could be wrong, they have volvo powerplants - at least the one i used did as well as one of their skid steers also - that 250 i used was EASY on fuel and QUIET - I loved it and wished i could have kept it but i dont run a business - for 150K the sales rep said i could keep it HA!!

It seems it just about Branding as far as VOLVO is concerned. As long as they have a broad spectrum of machines with their Brand, it doesn't seem to matter to them, who makes them. Not sure I agree with that, but then I don't agree with a lot of things. If you have to buy the dozer from the one who makes the best one for you and buy a loader from another company that's the best in that, who cares?

as we move along that seems to be the venue for a lot of manufacturers, where they used to make/fabricate their own stuff its less expensive to have someone else make it and add it to the mix or start with a product and then modify it to your standards hence why you get Mustang/Takeuchi/Gehl track loaders all from same place.

My volvo is a 1st gen volvo which means it was the first years AFTER they bought them from Omni Quip - ( scat trak ) or still the current SKY TRACK construction boom units from up in Wisconsin.

I loved my scat trak but wanted to upgrade so after they were purchased from Volvo i got one that is basically a Scat with new paint and emblems. Second gen they went to elect/hydro controls and a volvo power plant, 3rd gen now they are as you said made by JCB with the single ARM.

I like my first gen because its simple, hoses, pumps/motors, perkins engine, can get most parts at napa if needed. Easy to work on if needed also. I have had minimal problems but mine is cables with foot/hand that are manual only hydraulic assist sticks. not a lot of electronics to go bad. love the perkins engine!!!

I find, in a small confined space, they give me a splitting headache!

Ingersol sold Bobcat to Doosan, a South Korean company in 2007, about 12 years ago.

multinational conglomerates make my head hurt.

Not sure of all the details, but it says Volvo on it, has a Volvo power plant and works like a dream.

I have a neighbor who is in the heavy equipment construction business. A couple of his guys used my machine and said it was better than anything else they have used, in that size category. They have Cats and Takeuchi machines, in the small sizes.

It is super quiet. The cab, with the radio, makes working with this machine a dream.

Maintenance is easy. They built it so that you can lubricate the entire machine from one side of the boom. Takes 5 minutes to hit all lube points.

Nice visual indicator for hydraulic fluid level, right in front of your face in the back bay.

Access to all parts of the hydraulics and engine is right there. Seems like a well thought out machine.

But again, I am a homeowner, using this as a toy. I only have 200 hours on it.

i was told when i rented my volvo - by the volvo rep so take with a grain of salt - volvo was #2 in large excavators when it comes to comfort/quietness/reputation/respected among owners - I have a good friend that runs and excavation business with 2 trackhoes 2 dozers 2 skid steers - he said some day he hopes to own a volvo they are high end as far as he was concerned - he runs a kobelco and komatsu 2 cat dozers and 2 cat skid steers
