Finally shot another time lapse video. Here we are clearing in a pine plantation for a food plot. Mulching the trees, digging the stumps, and mulching the stumps with the excavator. Followed by the Bobcat mulching any stray limbs and mixing the mulch with the topsoil brought up with the stumps. I would love to have a food plot this size to hunt, although the shot to the back may be a little long.

Nice job but how come you didn't use the gyrotrac ? It would have done that job in 1/4 of the time.

We had it on site just in case, but it would have been hard to find the stumps to dig and mulch after mulching the trees with the gyro trac. It took longer this way but
We came out better and were able to give a better price. Beside, the excavator needed a good workout and its much more comfortable to run!

How do the teeth last when you mulch stumps?

Not too bad. The only abnormal wear we are getting is on the quadco cutter on the edge of the disc. 20 hours, flip, 20 hours, replace. But there's only 8 of them at $17. Should finish the last plot today.

Hey Colby, have you ever thought of fitting a Power Tilt quick attach (as shown on AFE web site ) on your excavator to make stumpgrinding easier?;)

Yeah, we talked to Jon about it when we were in Idaho. We all agreed that the cost didn't justify the benefit. He typically puts those on machines working on steep terrain that have the hydraulicly leveling chasis. Once you level your machine, the boom/head is no longer parallel to the ground.

The reason I mentioned the tilt attach is that I have worked with another company who had a rotary disc mulcher very similar to the AFE but used stumpgrinder teeth and by tilting the head were able to grind the stumps below ground level. Thought it was a great idea.

Yea no doubt a great idea but the Afe disc uses feller teeth around the outside cutting edge would probably wear them out alot quicker using it as a stump grinder. If u could get some carbides for the outside teeth I would imagine it would work an last.

Already planted. We removed the mulch, then landowner applied lime, fertilizer, and drilled peas and oats. Found some huge tracks while we were there.

Good idea. I've thought about getting some carbide teeth made for the edge of the disc. That would add another option. May need to check into the tilt.
