In California the smog testing required to renew, includes recording the miles shown in the car's computer. All automatic - they plug into the diagnostic port.

This data is uploaded to DMV even before you pay and are handed the test results.
What if your vehicle does not have OBD let alone OBD2?
Some older OBD2 systems it is trivial to reset mileage and much of the US has no smog testing requirement. Safety Inspection (when needed) is a dude slapping a new sticker on the old beast, inspecting is not part of the service.

Please find me a "free or subsidized" charging station.
Level 2 and Level 3 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are available along the New York State Thruway.

  • Level 2 stations are free to use and located at nine Commuter Park and Ride Lots off of the Thruway’s mainline system. It takes approximately 4 hours to fully charge.
Just because you don't think something exists

Crush it and make you get something compliant ;)

You're right that ICE drivers are paying more. But the numbers I posted yesterday showed that, at least in PA, total money going to registration + taxes for EV and ICE weren't that terribly far apart. Something like $0.20 per day difference.

So, I consider it one more incentive to get the masses of mundane commuters in their crappy old and slow Hondas and Toyotas into an EV. If enough head that way that the state actually notices it in their budget, I have no doubt the rates will go up, accordingly.

While I'm not driving a Ferrari, or even Massey's GT-40, I'm not going to let $0.20 per day sway my vehicle buying decision one way or the other. I might burn more gas than that sitting at useless unnecessary red lights, which always seem to favor the direction from which there's absolutely no traffic.
Did your numbers include rebates and tax incentives?

You know what a Level 2 is? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

"4 hours to charge" is only if one arrives with a 50% charge. Yup, I'm so stupid as to sit around for 4 hours just to get a free charge.

I'm going to buy an EV and rush to New York and only drive on the Thruway where I can charge for free!

So disappointed you didn't cite Whole Foods. They too have free L2 charging. Is such a Great EV Privilege to add 15 miles of range in 30 minutes while I pay $90 for $40 of groceries!

There are a number of hotels offering "free" L2 charging to overnight customers. Then again they offer "free" breakfast, "free" swimming pools, free free free under the same terms, "paying customer."

Your reading comprehension is deficient to "think" I didn't know of the existence of "free" EV charging. I'm sitting here laughing at how easy it was to pull your strings. To make you cite such ridiculous "free" charging facilities. I'm old enough to remember when one was offered "free" coffee on interstate rest stops in attempt to get tired drivers off the road for a few minutes for a stimulant. So let's extrapolate that into, "Free Coffee For All!"

Cite the rebates and tax incentives you are referring to?

Then lets factor in the tax incentives Toyota/Mazda got to build a factory in Huntsville Alabama, or the incentives Toyota got to build an engine factory in Huntsville. Let's factor in the incentives Kia/Hyundai got to build factories in Alabama and Georgia. The incentives BMW got to build in South Carolina. Mercedes-Benz in Alabama. The list goes on and on and on. And not a single EV from any of the above.

I pay $204/year "EV Fee" no matter the miles driven. I pay more tax to drive the EV than my ICE vehicles.
You’ve calculated taxes on a gasoline vehicle is less than $204 a year, or simply the total is less?
It would be interesting if you would post your numbers and calculations
