Ethanol vs non ethanol

All of you guys running old carbureted tractors, do you recommend running non ethanol gas or is there no difference to just fill up with regular gas from the pump? Haven't tried yet, just curious as to if someone has tried.

Depends on the engine and if it was built pre ethanol. The pre ethanol engines had corrosion issues with ethanol. A change in the metal protected the engine from the corrosion.

If pre ethanol design I would run pure gas to be safe.

No choice here as ethanol is all that is available.

I have had trouble with rubber fuel lines and corrosion in the carb...

I've put roughly a couple of hundred hours on my early seventies International using ethanol gasoline with no problems so far - knock on wood!

Im not having any problem with the 1962 JD2010 on 10% ethanol.

Something that old, probably safer to use a non ethanol variety. Only if it had a track record of using E10 with no problems would I go that route. But if E10 is all one can get, there are some good fuel additives that address issues older motors might have with E10. Amsoil's Quickshot is one of them.

Have lots and lots of hours on an old Oliver 770, Oliver 77 and a International Harvester Super C which have all been running ethanol since the mid 80s with no problems. As a side note also ran it in the 1969 roadrunner and the 1970 Nova SS. I have never seen an ethanol issue ever.

I have to agree... the cars cars/equipment I operate at least weekly are ok...

It's the antique and collectable vehicles or seasonal items where I have all my troubles... especially older items with vented fuel tanks.

It has been a real bear in that I never had any issues for decades going back the early 1970's... the difference is night and day... I have had vehicles parked just for winter develop carburetor problems...
