Ethanol gas evidence

I bought a walk behind mower yesterday and started messing with it today.
It ran last season and was left with ordinary pump gas with 10% ethanol.
Not only the bad gas, and cleaning the carb bowl, main jet, float, etc.
Look at this nice surprise from the plugged up fuel line.

That’s a longer drill bit it used to go through it ramrod style. This came out the opposite end on the first pass.

At $.89 a foot for line, that can add up quickly

We all need to put fuel stabilizer in the tank before you shut it down for the season and run it through the whole fuel system.. Gasoline fuels need this weather it has ethanol in it or not.

Best is non ethanol but lacking availability buy the highest octane at the pump.
Highest usually has less or even no ethanol.

Bought myself a heated ultrasonic bath cleaner I keep filled with Berryman's B12 Carb cleaner. 30 minutes in that cleans everything. Won't clean goopy hoses though.

Good enough for Mustie (on You-Tube)_, good enough for me.

All gasoline fuels are made or refined as an expendable product and its always been that way. That means they have a limited shelf life and as soon as they come out of the pipe line or exposed to oxygen they deteriorate. The only way to extend this is to keep it very cool, have no oxygen for it to mix with, or add a stabilizing chemical to it. One of these options is pretty easy to do.

Pay now or pay later principle. I prefer to not pay at all so I use the blue marine Stabil.

What is that stuff? Did it just melt the fuel line?

My goodness. I have to admit I’ve left fuel in mowers over the winter but nothing like that ever happened. Ever.
