Have you had some bad experiences with it Doc? If I remember correctly, my search over on Country-By-Net brought up about the same opinion you had of it over a year ago. I was reading where you preferred straight electrical to the solar powered chargers as well. Since my whole installation is going to be new I'm looking at all the options and figuring out what will work best for us here.

Cowboydoc, is there a particular brand of coated high tensile wire that you prefer? Wouldn't a coated high tensile wire still cut a horse that hits it at full speed? What diameter are we talking about with the coating? I have heard that the braided rope like ElectroBraid is very safe but I also worry about visibility for these thinner solutions. Anyone have any opinions on the braided electric fencing vs. the mesh?

Yes, a 6v Parmak solar charger.

At my picture shows, I have 3 strands. The lowest one is 2' off the ground, then one at 3' and 4'. The posts are 5' tall. I thought about adding a strand 1' off the ground, but I was concerned about snow getting that deep in the winter.

That's a good question. I'm not sure horses see color. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif We used white so it was easier to see when contrasted with the predominant background colors (green and brown of the grass/woods).

BTW, I used McFeely square drive stainless steel screws to attach the insulators to the PT posts.
