Engine needed

Some years ago I sold one of my very best buddies an old Cub Cadet. A 109 I believe. It has a 10 hp Kohler and it needs replacing. He is reluctant to bore it and re-build. He would like to buy a good running engine that has not been bored. Anyone here have one they would like to sell? The tractor is a 1972 model with a Hydrostatic trans.

There are some "kits" to put Honda engines in older tractors. I just saw some online. Try a search for that. I'll try to find where I saw them.

I'm not sure why he would be reluctant to rebuild it- the cast iron K241 Kohler is one of the most rebuildable small engines out there. Many people have taken them through 3 rebore cycles and they are still going. Any used running Kohler engine that he would find that will work on the Cub will likley have been rebuilt at some point in time. Any GOOD small engine shop can rebore the block and rework the valves, put new seals and gaskets on it and it will be like a brand new engine. Small Engine Warehouse has SOME of the original K series engnes available new, but they cost a small fortune.
