Are there any type of heaters that can be used in the oil pan (hot dipstick) or something that can be put in the radiator to help the diesel on the 2670 start?...

I really don't want to go the the expense of a block heater as there would really be few times I need it here in Western PA...

I remember years ago I had a '70 (?) Plymouth Scamp and I had a dipstick that you plugged in to 110 and removed the oil dipstick and inserted the heater dipstick. Just left it in there overnight if it was going to be really cold. That thing started every time. Wouldn't without the hot dipstick though...

Any devices out there to help the Kubota start easier?...

Thanks...BCB

When I did my block heater it was not dificult or very expensive...the Kubota block heater runs about $63 which I do not know how that compares to the dipstick but it could not be too much.

The block heater install was easy. Drain coolant, remove expansion plug, insert heater with sealant, let cure, refill coolant.

"Was Easy" is a relative term!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

I guess when I said in my first post that I didn't want to go to the expense of a block heater, I should have said that I didn't want to go to the expense of having the Kubota dealer install it after I try to install it and mess it all up!!!...

But, it doesn't sound too difficult unless one needs to remove bunches of other stuff to get to the expansion plug...

How about the magnetic heaters on the oil pan. Or would that just warm the oil and not help much with the starting process?...

Thanks...BCB

There is only one place to jam those useless oil burning dipstick oil heaters...................
Use real synthetic oil from Mobil 1 or Amsoil to prevent lube oil jelling up.
The attached catalog has coolant and oil heaters of every type . Something will fit. If you can afford the tractor you can afford a proper heater. I'm just glad you didn't say you are using ether.
A couple of magnetic heaters under the oil pan will thin the oil but accomplish nothing to warm the combustion chambers.

On the L5030 the only thing that needed to be remove was the side panel/cowling on the port side of the tractor. No different than taking off the starboard one for the oil filter.

The expansion plug was a meral disc...punched a hole into it with a big screwdriver and pried it out. Used a pair of visegrips to grab the first edge as it levered sideways to get a good grip on it.

The heater comes with a metal srew on sleeve to friction fit push into the block. Covered the outside diameter of the sleeve with sealant, started it into the block with a dead blow mallet, drove it home with a single jack and a short wood block. Screwed in the heater into the sleeve, replaced coolant, done and done.

The VT3300 Kubota generator motor had direct access, had a screw out plug; drain coolant, remove plug, install heater, replace coolant. Done.

I bought this magnetic block heater at Napa for about $30.00. The beauty is you can swap it between machines. I use the dollar in the pic to show the strength of the magnet.

Does it work good? How long do you need to leave it on?

I've got two of the silly magnetic heaters. Honestly, you can keep them. The power they draw is awful and the effect they have is so darn minimal. Simply not a block heater at all. Merely an attempt, imho, to try to warm the oil in the oil pan a bit. Eck!

The true block heater is wonderful. It only takes about 15 or 20 minutes and it is sizzling in there. I rarely use it, but I've had them on my last two Kubotas. Good to know it's there.

Absolutely, yes, on the synthetic engine oil. Nice 5W-40 and it'll turn over and flow nice, even in the cold weather. Thing to remember is not to be over confident in the block heater because the HST is stone cold and going to take awhile to warm up. Super UDT-2 is a nice, quick flow synthetic type product.

I just checked the weather for CT and will all due respect. You do not receive cold winter weather A couple of 200W or 300W heaters under an engine would warm up if parked in a shed.
In sub zero temps or if a 1hour warmup is required at near freezing temps. Then a real coolant heater is the answer.
