Those gaps should be identical, right? With a feeler gauge?

Rust doesn't effect the magnetic field to the coils, but rust will effect the air gap which can cause problems. Also may want to check the valves clearances and inspect the valve guides. Just had to replace the heads on a Kaw earlier this year due to a mouse nest causing both valve guides to migrate toward the valve keepers resulting in both push rods being bent.

Most of the time you can hear the irregular running due to a dropped cylinder but if both valves are not opening you will not notice the one cylinder running, just will seem like lack of power.

Should be identical but sometimes can be hard to replicate because hard to get both legs to be in front of magnet at the same time. Gap should be .010.

Wish we had matchbooks still. Place between the coil and magnet, push the coil against it, tighten, remove matchbook, done.

At least the down and dirty way we use to do it.
