I've got a ton of the Ryobi One tools and love them. The ni-cad batteries didn't last but the l-ion batteries are good. I also have Ridgid 18v tools, and they come with a lifetime warranty, including the batteries!

Heat gun on a battery, that would be a cool add on for quick uses. I got the Craftsman C3 impact gun and angle grinder with 2 batteries for my birthday. That impact is amazing and nice to have the grinder for quick work. One battery is high output lithium.

I've been using Ryobi 18+ for several years now. Back then I had a Skil and a Makita, when the batteries died, I looked around and it was cheaper to buy new sets rather than new batteries. I've never looked back since I made the switch to Ryobi, by now I must have 18-20 things that all use the same battery.
Just this Christmas the wife gave me a Ryobi 18+ one gallon chemical sprayer and the hybrid stereo. I've got their hot glue gun on my list as my next purchase.

On a side note, when I first started using Ryobi, I had two of the LI-Ion batteries go bad on me. Somewhere I read where those batteries don't live very well in cold conditions and I'd been leaving them on the counter in my shop, which isn't heated when I'm not there. I started putting them in an old refrigerator that I use to store welding rods and paint with a thermostatic controlled light bulb to keep it above freezing and I've not had a battery go bad since then. Just a thougt.

I would think it would have to be "very quick uses", as heat guns would really suck the power. I don't think we are going to be seeing any battery powered heat guns real soon. At least until we get those fusion batteries going.

Disconnect the cells internally and wire in a wire with battery alligator clips (or cig lighter plug) on the other end. Attach it to a car battery as a backup. You may burn it out on high speed but maybe not. That's what my plan is for my old 12volt drill.

Why would you? I'd also be concerned with overloading a cig lighter plug. Someone mentioned using a bench top power supply. Why not just use a corded drill?

Like I mentioned, mainly for camping. Something to leave in the camper, I wouldn't want to leave my go to tools in there all the time. Plus you don't always have A/C power where you need it.

Nicads are capable of some pretty high discharge currents, but in reality I don't think the idea of a battery powered heat gun is very viable with battery technology that we know about. It might be possible to make one with NiCads, but I don't think it would be very practical.
