end of an era

I am older than You, but I remember when a Slide Rule was used in our Physics Class. I also remember when the people that wanted to become office workers would take Tying and Shorthand classes. Buy, have times changed.

I'm not that old! But I thought the slide rule was something students had to learn, to go onto advanced studies. I find it sad that it isn't around much anymore.

I remember punch cards and Fortran. I think I took a typing class in 1964, which I barely passed. I have always been a 3-1/2 finger typist.

I really hated typing papers in college on a manual. If I had a good page going, I would sweat bullets trying to get through the final paragraph without messing up the page and have to start all over. I don't miss that a bit.

My later work involved a lot of text-based commands and scripts in Unix and Oracle. I have forgotten so much of that stuff, the concepts are still there but the arcane details of scripting and syntax are gone. When Access began to gather momentum in the late 90's I looked at it but never cared for it. I always felt like the graphical interface was a barrier to letting me talk to the database engine.
