In SW Virginia - Elk Cam | VDGIF


I counted 22 this morning on one of the cams. It's great to see Elk in Va - not a big deal to you folks out west, but sure is to this Va. guy.

My neighbor always has a bone to pick with our local elk. They eat the centers our of his round bales. Makes his "pickup & delivery" truck useless.

I keep the VDGIF Elk Cam as a favorite on my phone and check it every few days. Yesterday, when I checked, it was bright blue skies there in SW Virginia, but cloudy here. The scenery is nice - great to see what they can do to reclaim old coal strip mines.

Yes...about 3 minutes before it repeats. Some days seems to do a different routine...zooms in and out.

It's fun to watch as time progresses from total dark to sunrise. You can see the eyes turn to shapes, then grayscale elk - then when the light level reaches adequate the camera switches to full color.
This morning, a water truck drove up the road through the herd; they stood there and watched, barely making an effort to get out of the way.
