I'm looking for one to adjust chainsaws. Want an electronic unit where all you do is hold it very close to the plug/wire. Must go to about 16K RPM reading.

Whats out there and what do you guys use?? Not looking to spend more then 60-70 bucks either.

Thanks,

Craig

Curious, no advice on your tach cause all I have is a mechanical one and with a chainsaw, well that would be just crazy. :confused2:

But when you say "adjust", are you talking carb ?

Have a look over on arbourists site. Theres a couple available, some better than others and the reviews are there. Sorry but the name of the recommended one escapes me but i think its the Stihl one.

I usually tune by ear

I seem to remember a thread on some forum said Grainger, Northern Tool, or Harbor.

I have two at work. We have to monitor and report speeds of fans on fan/heatsinks for PC microprocessors. It is an inexpensive one, but is also calibrated. It is good to within a couple rpm. It's about $250 with a calibration cert though. That, is dirt cheap compared to some though....

Stihl makes a decent one, as Scooby said. I too tune by ear, although I've used the Stihl tach.

We have a Stihl tach at the shop. Small and easy to use. I'll try to get info on it tomorrow.

I use a Fast Tach, from Edge & Engine. Small, handy, but it is $85.

Yeah that is the one I use. Works great!!!

Many of the newer saws can rev very high, and will damage themselves if run too lean. For instance, my Dolmar 5105 needs to be tuned with a tach.

Stihl tach is also $85.
