Has anyone saw one of those three wheel scooters run while they were visiting power trac at Tazwell. They look like they really motivating it when they go by on one looks like they are doing 20 mph. Might be an answer for the high gas prices using it for short hops around the neighborhood. They said that they would go 15 to 20 miles on a full charge on level smooth ground.

Yep, I drove one just a short distance inside the building. Peppy little machine.

I got a test ride with Chris when I went to pick up the 422.
We rode up to tour the new building and when coming back to the main building the cart is narrow enough that we rode through the small man doors. It was definitely a three ticket ride.

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Even if the electricity to recharge this 3-wheeler were free, how many thousand "short hops around the neighborhood" will be required to pay for itself in gas savings!!???!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I agree. I investigated buying a Geo Metro during the last gas crisis. The savings for me would have been nil, as the newer car would depreciate, the plates were more and the taxes were higher than the cost of me operating my long ago paid for 8MPG 454 powered 3/4 ton beater. Now, I don't drive that many miles, so the cost savings wouldn't have been worth it. But I could see someone that drives a lot considering trading for a better mileage vehicle. But these little scooters probably won't save you anything VS the cost of purchase. The real reason you should buy one of these is for the fun of it, not any practicality! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They look like they would be useful in a large warehouse environment, emissions wise. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I always thought about getting a golf cart for our property when we move. That would be fun. I could drive around my 'estate' and pretend like I was rich or something.... I'd like to have some topiary, mowed lawn trails and a putting green in the medow. Then the tax man would come, see all the improvements, and re-assess my property, Then I could drive myself to the poorhouse on it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did you drive one, David? I considered them at one time, but this far south, I gotta have an air-conditioner and if I was cruising along when the compressor kicked on, it felt like I just hit the brakes. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

That is so funny, David!

I feel exactly the same way - when we do all this improvement on our property - additonal landscaping, improving the house - the assessor comes by and nicks you - gak! It's enough to build a 'stealth house', where it looks gross on the outside, but is really cool on the inside. Perhaps I should work on a hologram generator. It could be commercialized for use in anti-theft devices for cars and tractors. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

With your central location I figure when you get your property ready, we would have a PowerTrac owners get together at your place. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had a golfing buddy that was one of our City assessor's. One day he stopped by because he noticed a new fence that I had put up along side my garage. All it was was an "L" shaped fence to conceal my wood pile from the street so it didn't look so bad. But as he walked in the front door of the house, he shielded his eyes with his right hand, saying that he didn't want to see down into my basement stairs in case I had finished off the basement.

Well, that was his idea of a joke, because he knew darn well I hadn't finished it off yet! But I ended up getting hit with a small property tax increase because of the "addition of the fence"! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Those scooters look like a very simple machine. They have a 12 volt motor, if they had a 48 volt motor with a different cog ratio larger wheels just a little wider. It would be fun to rig up something like that. The scooter that they have would be a big help in a warehouse, but if you wanted to get out on it you would have to soop it up some. About the gas prices every year for the past several years seems like we have large gas hikes I beleive alternative transportation such as the hybred cars will gain in popularity. I heard that there were some auto makers were planning to introduce a hybred truck in the near future. I'm glad to see new inovations, I hate to see our country being held hostage to these gas prices. I know it isn't popular these days but I'd like to see usa get its independance back again.

Bird,
Yes, I did drive one. And I didn't like it at all. It had little tiny tires and it felt like I was driving a pop can. Hit a chuck hole and my teeth rattled. I didn't feel safe in it as it at all. I thought about it, sat down and wrote out how much I would save in gas(only about $500 for the year), no savings in insurance, more for plates and depreciation, etc... and I found it would be more economical for me to fix up my beater truck. Of course, it would waste more gas and cause more pollution. I really do have mixed emotions about it. Sooo, we kept our Cavalier and beater 3/4 ton truck and made special plans to consolidate trips in the car and use the big truck as little as possible. It worked out well and I got to spend more time with my wife while commuting. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wait till they find out you have a boat, or a finished basement, or frozen pizza, etc... property taxes stink! Ooops. Don't want to go down that road too far, but keeping it related to tractors... has anybody been property taxed on their tractor yet?

You know, I was thinking of that. It would be fun. But it will be a few years until everything is ready(plumbing, running water and refrigeration are the 3 key principles for a decent get-together /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif). "Hey, honey. I'm invinting over a few people I met on the internet and some are bringing their tractors. I only sent the invitations to that little tractor group that I belong to(don't tell her there's 10,000 members). They'll bring some potato salad..." /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good thoughts. However, some of us put it on ourselves. We move out to the suburbs and have to drive everywhere. The blame goes to our own choice of lifestyles. I'm not lecturing anyone, as I do it myself. To minimize the impact on the environment, my wallet and my family, we try to consolidate our car trips for several reasons. It saves us lots of money. We get to spend more time together. And it saves lots of gas and cuts down on pollution. We take the car as much as possible because it gets double the gas mileage of our full sized van. With 11 & 6 year old daughters, we have lots of running to do, but we plan it out to minimize the total milleage. For instance, we have several activities on weeknights. They could easily be 5 short trips totaling about 20 miles. By consolidating them and just waiting in a parking lot for 10-15 minutes a couple of times, we cut them down to one 5 mile trip total. And we get to spend time reading a book with the kids or watching them at sports practice, etc...

With the Power Trac, I can get so many jobs done so fast, it also helps save fuel and impact on the environment. Sounds corney, but it's true. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
