Back to an Ego zero steer mower review. Got the machine out and the OEM batteries were down to about 80% while the aftermarket 2 were 100% dead and not take a charge. The company who sold them on Amazonie were gone and I could not write a review of them, or send them back. They were close to one year old. Have now mowed twice this spring using the 4 OEM batteries and I am reminded just how nice this unit is to use. Did order 2 more batteries and blades for it.
What does a battery cost? Looks like OEM is the only viable option

If they save you 69 gallons of gas at $3.25 a gallon over their lifetime, you break even. Everything after that is gravy. (y)

Of course there's the electricity charge, but I imagine you'll break even if they last a few years. (y)

My neighbor across the street is on his 3rd year with his original batteries. Still smiling. ;)

Honestly, not that bad if you get a full season out of them. I burn $500 - $600 in gasoline mowing 3+ acres each year.

What's the OEM battery cost? It'll be interesting to see how their total lifetime cost compares to total lifetime cost of new aftermarket batteries each year. I predict OEM is cheaper, if they last more than 2 years.

How many batteries does it need to cut say, two acres at a time?

I burn about 48 gallons of gas per year as it stands.

I don't really know but our yard is small, like 100+ x 300+ft with buildings in it. If the grass gets tall, I can't mow it with 4 batteries. It can carry 6.

Do yourself a favor and start writing birthdates on your batteries with a paint marker or engraver, if they're not already marked as such. You're going to want to keep track, as the OEM batteries age over a presumed 3 - 5 year lifespan.

I cut about 2 acres of grass. In four years, I have put 60 hours on my 54" Bad Boy ZT. I do not keep track but estimate less than two gallons of gas per hour. 15 hours a year works out to about $100/year. Add in an oil change every two years for $20. $110/year.

Ego 10 Ah batteries cost $200. If they last four years, $800 every 4 years. And the Ego will not mulch leaves like the gasser will. If cutting 30 times a year, an electric might cost less but I only have about 15 cuts a year where I live.

The Bad Boy should last 30 years with my use. I am in my seventies and will never need to buy another ZT. The Ego looked a bit flimsy to me but should be good for most lawns. My lawn is reclaimed forest area and a bit rough in spots so a heavier duty machine made sense.

One size does not fit all.

15 hours per year, cutting 2 acres? How?

I run about 40 hours per year with my 72" Hustler. I also mow the yard at the barn which is about an acre, on top of that. After 6 years I'm at 250 hours. Just did my 6th oil change yesterday
