Is the the chicken tractor 3 pt or ground driven implement?

I think that is a great idea. I know a lady that does that and she actually pulls several pens with open bottom in tandem. They all are tied together and she pulls them here and there on the pasture. It is a win -win situation.

Dont know about the answer to the first question...guess youll have to give it a go and report back.

Was thinking about doing exactly what your lady friend is doing. Its a great setup and if you plant the field w/ a high quality forage there's little need for supplimental feed. Im sure many joined houses could be pulled up/down the field w/ very little effort. Certainly the initial/ongoing equipment cost is small compared to a conventional poultry operation. OTOH you likely won't be running as many chicks as they do either. I figure the best market is the organic/natural eggs/meat market where prices & profit margins can be higher. Even for your own consumption its a great deal.

FWIW I like Buff Orpingtons for eggs/meat. They're very gentle & quiet (and pleasant to look at as well) and wind up pretty big by the time they 'retire' from laying.

I have a few chain link dog kennels in the 10x13 by 7' high size range. i had considered getting 2 tube gate roller wheels ( the kind that clamp on a tube gate to let the open leading edge run on the ground to support the gate weight ), and putting a wheel on the back side.. clamp on at each corner, and then rig up hitch so I could actually lift the front say 2" off the ground then drag the thing to different places.

I guess some extra tubing and a 3rd gate wheel would make do.. or even a 4th gate wheel. then just push in place by hand??? Never got around to it though.. (grin)

There's a great book on 'green' living out that has plans for a very workable chicken tractor 'building'. Can't remember the name.. but found it googling chicken tractor a couple years ago..

Maybe Joel Salatin is the person who you are thinking of.
He's written a few books on the subject and has been very successful with "chicken tractors" and pastured poultry.
