Anyone using EFI and if so how do you like it? Is it better than a carb.

Not using but mower shop says stale fuel problem have not come through the shop when EFI.

Carburetor repairs/replace keep the shop busy and in the SF Bay Area canned gas alternative can be expensive.

Oh for sure.
EFI was my first requirement when purchasing a new ZTR mower. Just sit down, set the brake and turn the key.
Same way with the Gator.
Some people can't wrap their heads around the operation of a manual choke.

I have 1 zero turn with EFI (Vanguard 37HP) and 1 carbureted (Kawasaki 35HP.)
The EFI starts much easier after setting long periods. When started regularly not much difference between the 2 far as starting.
I was hoping to see lower fuel consumption with the EFI, but it uses the same amount of fuel as my carbureted Z.

I got tired of rebuilding carbs on hand held 2 cycle and 4 cycle single cylinder engines (up to 9 HP) with carbs so started using ethanol free (called REC 89 fuel here) and have not had to rebuild/clean any carbs in last 5 years. The REC 89 normally sells for 0.80 to 1.10 US dollars over normal 10 percent ethanol 87 octane fuel.

Due to the increased price of ethanol free REC 89 fuel I do not use it in my larger V-twin engines that consume usually around 1.1 to 1.3 gallons per hour. I have a 23 HP carbed Kawasaki (Wright Stander 52 inch setup with mulching inserts) that is nearing 20 years old/700 hours and has not required a carb clean yet. It has increased cranking time to start over the years. I suspect a carb cleaning could help reduce some of the cranking time but easier to crank then rebuild carb. My second Zero Turn has a 38 HP EFI Kohler (Exmark 60 ZTR setup for side discharge that starts with minimal cranking just like it did when new 4 years ago. I expect it to not have any fuel issues with winter storage (from late October to late April. Each of these mowers is used one day per week for about 3 hours during mowing season. We do use stabile during season and offseason. The 23 HP Kawasaki does have a fuel shutoff which allows me to run the fuel out of the carb each week when I shutdown. The EFI Kohler fuel shutoff is under the seat so I never lift the seat to run the fuel out of the EFI fuel system.

I believe the EFI does allow a minimal fuel savings when the engine is under lighter loading conditions. The two engines use about 1.1 to 1.3 gallons per hour depending on grass conditions. The 23HP is on a 52 inch cutting width mulcher 700 pound mower and the 38 HP is a 60 in side discharge 12500 pound mower.
Hopefully EFI will be trouble free and not require any expensive shop time.
