EcoDiesel, A Maiden Voyage

I think you guys make WAY more out of this than need be. Diesels are not only here to stay, they are growing in numbers. So like them, hate them, justify them or justify why not, but no one needs to criticize someone elses choice because you do not agree with it. Like was mentioned, how long does it take for the auto tranny, or power windows or AC to pay for itself?

WHO CARES!!!!!!!

Love following these "to diesel or not to diesel" debates, or for some posters, arguments. Just want to add that when "running the numbers" don't forget residual value, which should almost always be more on the same exact truck optioned with the diesel engine. So if the up-charge is $3000, I would say a good bogey is to assume you'd get back one-third to one-half that difference on resale/trade-in. And if you assume you'll never sell it, then you can assume a lot of miles over which to amortize the full up-charge cost of the diesel.

I'm afraid that the increased concentrations of Biodiesel (B10-B20) that are now being introduced will cause complications with these new tier IV diesels. When using biodiesel, the post combustion injection cycle can leave excess biodiesel on the cylinder walls which works it's way past the rings and dilutes the engine oil. CleanMPG Forums - Illinois Non-Compliant Biodiesel and Your Turbo Diesel Warranty Ram's official recommendation when using any fuel with more than 5% biodiesel is to change the oil every 6 months or 8,000 miles. You can supposedly go 12 months or 10,000 miles when using B5 or straight diesel. Other than the factory fill Pennzoil Ultra Euro, I haven't found any oil that meets the low ash specs and is the 5W30 weight that Ram requires. The OEM oil filter cartridge alone costs $50 '14 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 68229402AA Oil Filter Cartridge-Geno's Garage

Monster, the only available gears for the Eco diesels are the 3.55 standard and the 3.92 as an option. The 3.21 gear is only available with the gas engines. Your window sticker says 3.21 but once the diesel is added as an option the ratio is changed.

Wow Mo1........that is quite the stretch of thinking , a company introduces a small diesel in half ton and your already worried they are going to discontinue your gas engine choice..................sometimes the market isn't all about your choices...........be happy with your Ford and gas will be around for another 30 years......but some of us will look forward to other choices that make valid cost and longevity criteria to us. ...........and considering Motor Trend voted it 2014 truck of the year , some other folks might think so too.

As for the "social engineering" in my country..........me thinks thou doth protest too much.............considering the USA is fine about buying their oil from rogue countries , instead of all the "social engineering" your President is bowing to enviro nuts to avoid Canadian oil pipelines from his supposed friend and neighbor Canada....but I digress, you and I cannot control the social engineering and trade manipulation our government make, but we can react by buying products that help us mitigate some of the costs of owning long term vehicles..........enuf said

Have any magazines done a decent test on the Ecodiesel?

How many of you guys would have picked a gas option if it was available on the diesel tractor you now own? Hmm...?

Pull in and start dumping out new window wash jugs on the ground, saying as you do so, "Fill these up too!"
