Location
From Orange County NY to Lincoln County ME
Tractor
JD LX288 and a B7800
This looks legit on a quick scan.

$15,000 .... whoa .. why would I want to buy a JD4710 eHydro - 139 hrs - with loader and R4s for 15k when I could get an AGCO ST30 w/loader for 19.5K, or a TC30 w/loader for 23.8K or a Kubota B2910 w/loader for 21K right in my own backyard.

When I saw the location, I was like ... wow ... an hour away from me. Then ... I realized, there hasn't been either a farm or an acreage to justify a tractor like this in Elizabeth N.J. in over 100 years. Elizabeth IS HOWEVER, the largest international shipping and bulk transport marine port on the eastern seaboard.

Hmmmm ....

Doug . . .

Did you enlarge the pictures? I don't know if Elizabethtown NJ is rural or not, but in some of those pictures that show a clear shot of the countryside, it sure looks like you can see all the way to the curve of the earth becuase there is nothing in sight until you hit the horizon line. Is Elizabethton NJ, or the area around it, that sparcely populated that you could see that far or do you think it possible that the pictures were taken somewhere in the great plains like Kansas, Nebraska or the Dakotas?

One picture has a flag pole, when I enlarged it I was hoping to see a State flag flying under the American flag, but it appears to be a POW flag flying so that didn't turn up a clue.

BillyP . . . That is how I am leaning as well. If for no other reason than the pictures and the lack of information, combined with free shipping.

I wonder if anyone near there wants to try to arrange for a visit to see the tractor? I did that with a tractor in Chicago, it was amazing how quickly the seller clammed up when I tried to arrange to see it. Ebay pulled the auction the next day when I reported all my findings. Anyone in NJ want to call a bluff?

Hi Bob.. Elizabeth, is a waterfront city with a port on New York Harbor, just under the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge. Basically, you could throw a stone and hit the Statue of Liberty. Look in the dictionary under URBAN/INDUSTRIAL and you'll see a picture of Elizabeth. These pictures were NOT taken in that city. 4/10ths of every imported item in the US pass through there, both legal and otherwise.

I'm not sure how much credence to put in the fact that the eBay seller has NJ as the location. I DO note however that the seller is FIRST TIME.

Whats scary about this item is that the seller was wise enough to throw up a price that to the unindoctrinated isn't so wildly off, even though we all know it's about 4 grand away from fair market value.

He's got bidding activity to boot. YIKES.

Hey .. a man can dream, can't he? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mike .. I should clarfiy:

I AM kidding about the comparison, but the price quotes for the other machines are real quotes I've gotten from my only local source dealers.

There is no need to live in NJ to call their bluff. When you "Ask the Seller a Question", they don't know where you live.

Just tell them you live in town and would like to see the tractor in person. After you make arrangements (if you actually get that far), then at the last minute email them back and say you can't make it.

Are those the wheels for Industrails? They look like the 8pos Ag wheels...

I don't think that Free shipping alone spells scam. It is certainly a cool bone to throw out if you want to strike interest. But there is 0 feedback and no contact info...

It's hard to tell by the listing alone if it is a scam. It is a new seller, so the listing could just be from lack of knowledge in what to post in an auction listing. Most scams are when they have stolen someone's username with a good feedback rating.

The auction states that they will take a personal check -- not a wire transfer, so there is another indication that it is not a scam.

Also, there are 6+ days left, so the FREE SHIPPING may indeed be a way to get interest, for if it is a valid auction, that price will surely increase greatly before it ends.

A few questions to the seller could shed more light on the validity of the auction.
