Easier, no-spill fueling aid

For those with JD 4000-Ten series tractors and others with fuel tanks built in behind the engine, this home made gadget makes fueling with 5 gallon cans much easier. It's really just a plastic tray about 22 inches deep by 16 wide, with wood blocks cut to the size needed to keep it level atop the engine compartment.

Remove the fuel can spout top, cover the outlet with a finger, then tilt the can spout into the fuel tank. and once in place, remove your finger from the outlet and open the vent cap. It is almost impossible to spill any fuel unless you overfill the tank, and you don't have to support the weight of the can while it empties. Wish I had thought of this sooner !!!

My Kubota is different, but the basic idea could work on it too. I think I will look around for some matierals. Good idea!!

My can for diesel has a cap and spout that I hated when I got it. It has a button you have to hold down while you squeeze a trigger to start the flow. That has saved me from more spills. I can set the flexible rib tube into the tank. The ribs keep it there. I balance the tank on the tractor, then push the button and squeeze the trigger. I used to use a funnel and a broken off spout on the gas can, this is easier.

I like that tray set up. You don't fill it with the hood down I see.

My 'can' holds 1500 gallons, has a hose and a nozzle connected to a pump. You put the nozzle in whatever you need to fill and fill it.

No. have never filled the tank with the hood down, I like to check oil and coolant levels, fan belt tightness, etc. at every refuel to I have always raised the hood. It is easy to do the checks while the fuel can empties....
