Did anybody get a chance to get to Airventure this year? Yesterday was my first time going. I was absolutely amazed at how large this show is!
I got there at 9:30am, which was not early enough to see everything in a day. I actually arrived in Oshkosh at 8:00, but had to make a stop at the hospital to visit my good friend that was recovering from a heart attack. Can't really rush outta there in that circumstance I guess....
Once I was inside the gates, I walked over to the Warbirds area and watched all the incoming/outgoing planes on runway 9. They were taking off or landing about every 30 seconds or less most of the time. The temperatures were not that bad until about 1:00, then they were in the 90's with the heat index over 100 from what I was told. I drank 1.5 gallons of water over the course of the day. On my feet all day, probably walked 5-10 miles too. Not bad for having back surgery only 2.5 years ago! The airshows started up pretty early, I think about 2:30. I got a spot right up front. I never thought to bring my chair along, so I sat on the grass. It was amazing watching the bombers in formation, then to see the pyrotechnic "bombs" explode as they flew overhead. The acrobatic flyers were also amazing. I only watched maybe 2-3 hours of the airshow, before it seemed like redundant moves in the sky. I JUST caught a sandwich before they closed up the food booth at 6:00, then it was off to the museum. I spent probably an hour there, very neat stuff!
I caught the tram as it was heading to the ultralight parking lot, but overheard the guys saying it was the last trip for the day. I SURELY wasn't going to walk back to my truck from where I was at that point. It got me back to the post office area then they shut it down. I had to walk back to the red lot from there. It seemed like a mile! I think I finally left the grounds at 8:20pm. I'm already making plans to attend next year! I'd like to spend 2 days there! Maybe I'll have my pilot's license by then???
