Did anybody get a chance to get to Airventure this year? Yesterday was my first time going. I was absolutely amazed at how large this show is!

I got there at 9:30am, which was not early enough to see everything in a day. I actually arrived in Oshkosh at 8:00, but had to make a stop at the hospital to visit my good friend that was recovering from a heart attack. Can't really rush outta there in that circumstance I guess....

Once I was inside the gates, I walked over to the Warbirds area and watched all the incoming/outgoing planes on runway 9. They were taking off or landing about every 30 seconds or less most of the time. The temperatures were not that bad until about 1:00, then they were in the 90's with the heat index over 100 from what I was told. I drank 1.5 gallons of water over the course of the day. On my feet all day, probably walked 5-10 miles too. Not bad for having back surgery only 2.5 years ago! The airshows started up pretty early, I think about 2:30. I got a spot right up front. I never thought to bring my chair along, so I sat on the grass. It was amazing watching the bombers in formation, then to see the pyrotechnic "bombs" explode as they flew overhead. The acrobatic flyers were also amazing. I only watched maybe 2-3 hours of the airshow, before it seemed like redundant moves in the sky. I JUST caught a sandwich before they closed up the food booth at 6:00, then it was off to the museum. I spent probably an hour there, very neat stuff!

I caught the tram as it was heading to the ultralight parking lot, but overheard the guys saying it was the last trip for the day. I SURELY wasn't going to walk back to my truck from where I was at that point. It got me back to the post office area then they shut it down. I had to walk back to the red lot from there. It seemed like a mile! I think I finally left the grounds at 8:20pm. I'm already making plans to attend next year! I'd like to spend 2 days there! Maybe I'll have my pilot's license by then???

I have been to Sun-N-Fun four times in the past five years. That is the Florida version of Oshkosh held every April. You really need two days to get a quickie visit accomplished. Just going to all the vendor booths that interested you could take up an entire day.

I love seeing the old Cessna 195's. To me they are the best looking planes there. Classic lines and the feel of first class travel for it's day.

Next year make sure to stop by Sam Lyons booth and look at his artwork. I have several of his paintings. Sam and Mindy are really nice people. He allows visitors at his studio just north of Atlanta where you can see a future painting in progress.

Bah, missed it this year it! Been lucky enough to fly in several times with owner/pilot friends and stay the week. Highly recommended... homebuilts, vintage aircraft, warbirds, rotary, ultralights... you really do need several days to see/experience it all. Heck, you could spend a day or two just going thru all the stuff in the FlyMart. If you ever get an opportunity to arrive via private plane, you really gotta do it. Busiest airport in the world for the week and, the first time you get in the Ripon-Fisk 'conga line' with so much traffic flying so darn close, it's a real test of skill and nerves. Got your head on a swivel and it gives you a little taste of what it must have been like in WWII time. The first time I was sweatin' bullets. Happen to have a few pics sitting on this computer, enjoy!

10. And to keep ON TOPIC, one of the Oshkosh tram tractors at work :)

dholly,

Great pics! I think if I hadn't spent all that time walking thru the fly market area, I probably could've made it to the ultralights and maybe even down to the seaplanes. Next year I'm planning for 2 days I think!
