What width blade is recommended for John Deere 4044m tractor

An 8 footer would be ideal IMO. At a 45* it is only about 67" wide, At 35* about 78" wide. I've found that I typically use my rear blade around a 35*-40* angle. ;)

P50,

Listen to Brian . . . at his suggestion I purchased a Land Pride 8' for my JD 4052R and couldn't be happier with the reach it gives me in working my driveway.

An 8 footer may not really necessary with the EA Deluxe Scrape Blade.
Depends on the tractor rear wheel width.
This blade is designed such that it can be significantly, and easily offset.

I am not where I can measure my EA blade offset amount, but it is a very significant amount of offset.
My little Ford 1920 has about a 58" rear wheel width. I believe that with my 6' EA blade at 45 degrees, I can reach out an additional 18" beyond my wheel width.
The EA Deluxe 6 Way Scrape Blade is a wonderfully designed/built piece of equipment.
I am not carrying water for EA, it is just that their blade is the most versatile I have seen.

I was using a 7' King Kutter, that is now for sale.
The KK is a piece of junk in comparison!

His tractor has a 6' wide bucket that comes on the loader if that gives you an idea of tractor width.

If a person wants to be able to cover the width of the tractor in a single pass, offset does not make that big of a difference. Yes offset has it's place and some very specific uses-purposes, cleaning out road side ditches comes to mind. As far as actual grading, you better have a very heavy machine if you are going to cut grade with the blade offset more than a few inches.

I have a 12,000lb tractor with a 9' rear blade that can offset 35". I can not cut grade with the blade offset more than about 12"-18". For that matter, it is very difficult to do it at a full 45* angle centered behind the tractor, let alone offset.

I'm talking about less than a 2" deep cut. ;)

Yes a person can get by with less, but why when he is purchasing new anyway. Blade widths between 7' & 8' are a small $$$ amount vs the added capability of the 8 footer.

Just my :2cents: based on what little experience I have.

Your tractor is huge (75HP blue(?) Mahindra) when compared to the OP's 43HP JD 4044.
Your 75HP tractor, or a motor grader is what is really needed to "cut grade".
You point out that the OP's tractor is 6' wide (Tractor data shows 73") so I agree, an 8' blade could be a good size, but, if there are narrow spaces to navigate, a 7' might be better.
I would consider a 43HP tractor to be a good tool for maintaining grade.

I agree, without knowing more about the conditions the OP is working with, all anyone can do is speculate. :confused3:

In general, I have found that a tractor of that size can make good use of an 8' rear blade or rake. Restricting conditions may dictate that a narrower unit would be more appropriate. ;)
