E is for Economy, M is for Money.

well then let me ask you this are the e series any good or are they junk???

Nope... they're a "rock solid" machine! Just not a "bells and whistles" tractor. Dry clutch, lower hyd output, fewer gear's, mechanical seat, etc. etc.

Really depends upon the scope of your work... how much - how fast. Got lot's of acres and want to get things done a bit faster - look at the M.

If you can scale things back and take your time - look at the e.

And don't forget the "limited" e series with cab. Probably one of the best bangs for your buck that Deere offers - IMHO.

Very far from junk, the E series is an awesome tractor. I'm a little more of a bells and whistles guy, but I'd definitely be tempted by the lower E price tags and all of its features. You say your a basic tractor guy, so the E is definitely the way to go. As AKfish mentioned, consider the limited model with a cab, excellent value.

I have a JD 5303 which is the previous model to the current JD 5065E. I have been very pleased with mine. I don't see where the extra $10,000 could be justified in my situation. It has been very reliable and does everything I need.

To some of us the "E" series ARE pretty fancy when compared to tractors we've come from. I thought I was in hog heaven with owning a tractor that had a fuel gage, power steering, adjustable seat.....not to mention pretty dog gone comfortable, shuttle shift transmission, etc. I dunno what I'd do with myself if I owned an "M" series when the "E" had spoiled me!

As they have said "E" for economy ... but I think they are still a good deal. One of my neighbors (not the one I'm getting the 5520 from) Just signed the deal for the 5083E and should get it his week. He said it fit right into his needs ... he went with the cab model. Out the door at $41,500 ... his first cab tractor.
