e-mail question

DW just started a new job, at 60!, in the local school systems career center. Of course, she has her own e-mail account at the new job, and because of the nature of the job it gets used a lot. Problem is she can't access the account from home. The IT person at her new job says she should be able to, and suggested that she try various browsers to see if something besides IE would let her log in. So I downloaded FireFox, which I use at work and kept meaning to put on the home computer anyway. Same problem with the e-mail...just gets the wrong name/password message.

What are the common things that give this problem? Her co-workers can access their mail on the school systems server with no problem. We did note that she is not yet listed in their employee database, that is her name does not come up when we do a search of the employee list. I thought that might be the problem and she will try to catch the IT person to ask, but since any computer problem that raises its ugly head in my house ultimately belongs to me I thought I'd try the TBN IT experts.

P.S. She CAN access at work.

Sounds like IT has not setup outside access correctly. She should have them look into it

1. What email system are they using? I know Novell Groupwise requires the person to enable email access through the web.

2. Can she connect to her email from another off campus computer, say a neighbor or relative? This would tell you if the problem is with your computer or not.

At our office with Exchange 2007 I have the web access setup so everyone has to enter the Domain\Username and the password instead of just the username and password. The schools system might be setup the same way.

All good replies. Thanks. Now I have some things to try and for her ask the IT person.

It might be a Novell system. I did see at least one Novell access while looking through the school sites, but I'm not sure that was her e-mail port. One would think that would have been addressed when her e-mail was set up, but the IT people might be pretty busy, depending on how many service the school system. The other problem is that she started after the semester had begun, due to her predecessor leaving abruptly, and that may have been a complication from the IT standpoint.
