JD4710
I understand that Hydro models make a certain amount of a whine type noise but is it normal when placing tractor (JD4710) under load for this noise to get loud & high pitched? Makes me think my baby in pain - yes I do LOVE my machine.

Also, is there some sort of E-hydro kill switch? Sometimes, for no apparent reason and even after you have been operating, the tractor will not respond when hydro pedal is pressed. Nothing seems to have an effect, checked brake, get off an on seat etc.... Can turn tractor off then crank and everything is back to normal. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Greg

I have a Hydro (non E) on my 4400 and it does not whine at all. I think you have a hydraulic proplem which may also be causing the other event you described. I'd get the dealer involved.

Oh Yeah, forgot to mention that I also have to work at the control to get it to change ranges.

I have a JD 4010 and killed it once and had a very difficult time putting it back into neutral. Since I don't make it a habit of killing it I haven't had that problem again.

On a another note maybe they will but a spell check on this thing so I don't look like an idiot with all types of misspelled words.

I, too, have this whining sound from the eHydro on my 4710. It does sound like there's something wrong and the tractor is going through some sort of trauma. I contacted my dealer and he told be not to be concerned about it. This apparently is 'normal' during the eHydro's break-in period and the whining sound should dissipate in time. I've noticed that the whining is lesser when operating at full throttle.

I also had the whining sound on my JD425 HST garden tractor. I was concerned about it at the time I bought it but it did disappear in time (in a couple years). Now, no problem.

On the E-hydro if you touch both pedals at once it will stop all commands and neither will work for about 7-8 seconds, then it will reset, or you can turn the tractor off and it will reset.
It's just a protection logic in the computer.

This has nothing to do with the whining sound, however. It whines when stepping on the forward or reverse pedal.

Your kidding, it locks out the movement of the tractor for 7 to 8 seconds, that would be enough to keep me from getting eHydro, I couldn't handle that. Some hydrostatic whine is normal, particularly under high load situations. My tractor will have a small amount of audible whine in high range when starting off in high gear, other then that, its very quiet and fantasticaly smooth

I see at least 2 main themes in this thread.

1. Hydro noise: All hydros will whine to some degree with the noise becoming louder under load. If the load is great enough a very loud, high pitch noise indicates that the HST has hit system relief pressure. On the 4710, this will rarely happen in A range, but is common in B and C range. Operating in relief long periods of time should not be done, but don't worry about it when it happens every now and then.

Also, on the 4610/4710 some early tractors would whistle on startup and at low engine speeds. John Deere solved this problem a few months ago. Your dealer should be able to find information on this fix. It is not damaging, but can be fixed if you don't like it.

2. Tractors stopping: The eHydro will refuse to move when both pedals are depressed, but this error should clear when both pedals are returned to neutral. If you have to shut off and restart the tractor, then it is likely that you have another error happening. I would suggest contacting your dealer to look at it. You can help him by recording any error codes. The error codes come from the indicator lamp on the right fender and are a series of 4 blinks. There are long blinks and short blinks in a morse code like fashion (. _ _ .), and will repeat after a short pause. It may take a few cycles to read and get the code, but it can be very helpful in finding a problem. Good luck. I love the new eHydros, but I think you will like it better when it is working the way it should.

That makes much more sense Roger, that is the returning of both pedals to neutral as opposed to having to reset by shutting the tractor of etc. That would be fine. On my L48, that situation is impossible to have.
