Yes they discovered the regenerative braking just isn’t that great on an e bike.

I've heard that regenerative braking really saves brake pads on heavy cargo bikes. Kinda like jakes on a truck. I've never tried one of those myself.

you need mass for regen braking to make sense.
Bike+rider is not anywhere near the mass of a motorcycle, no less a car or truck.

I just placed an order for FUJI Ambient EVO 1.3

It's a "bottom end" mountain bike with a Bosch CX, gen 4 drive. 19 inch frame for my 5' 11" height.
The 29 inch wheels may take a bit of getting used to.
1X11 transmission, 250 watts.

I'm getting a rear rack and saddle bags along with.

I test rode one at the local bike shop two days ago. The drive is almost too slick! And the Brakes almost put me over the handle bars! ;-)

The green paint color goes well in these Vermont forests. Although today, and amber gold would fit in well.

I went from 26" to 29" wheels on my analog mtbs a while ago. Both were XC bikes so things like wheelbase and geometry were similar. The feel is not hugely different. The 29" wheels roll smoother on rough terrain, which is their primary benefit.

Smoother is the real reason I'm stepping up from my GT Richter , 26 inch wheel V brake, Bafang Mid drive refit.

My present bike is just so clunky! ;-)

time will tell if I like the "slick" better.

an aside, I watched a youtube vid about the pros and cons of E-bikes. The fellow was suprised that the aspect that he most disliked about the e-mtb was the climbs. 2/3 of the time on a typical trail ride is climbing. Slow, steady, contemplative, peaceful pedeling.

I can relate!

Did it today, just dial back the the PAS to suit the lowest gear. Listen to each breath. But, keep the head up, enjoy the view.

Get yourself a dropper seat too.

Droppers are for the downhillers. That's not me ;-) I have a SPRUNG seatpost on the GT.

I get my downhill jollies on snow skis! Maybe I need to expand, But .... My eldest son does the downhill thing, I'm too old for all that additional gear!
