.DXF Drawing Software ??????

+2 on the free SketchUp and I have a plug in that allows the free version to save in .DXF(but not import). You could use the free Autocad reader to check the export. I have never tried it in any production machines, just to model woodworking projects so far and some tractor projects soon. Free is as cheap as you can get.

i use zwcad (a chinese autocad clone) for quick and dirty sketching, next to the OSD 3D software at work. After a 30 day free trial period its limted to 800kb or 8000 objects files, but for home usage thats good enough. The look and feel is identical to Autocad, which is why i prefer it over other free cad programs.

interesting thread for me, I am a freelance designer using ZW3D. It was until late last year a software company in Florida called VX. full solid modeling and NC programming. Also sheet metal that will produce flat patterns. i have a sheet metal customer that told me that no software could produce accurate flat patterns.....he now has me do his, saves a lot of time and money. You can do animations of parts to show function and assembly. Of course drawings produced and can be translated out in dwg or dxf.

Anybody ever use the old GenericCadd? I'm still pissed because they bought it just to squash it.

My first cad program was Gencad 1988? and it got me hooked, sure beat hand drawing. Anyone still doing technical drawings with a set square and T square?

I think even Corel Draw will export dxf files.
