I had a tooth ache last week and went over to my dentist to have it fixed. He does an xray and finds I have a sinus infection. He says he sees a lot of this in the Spring. I got to thinking what might have caused this. I always wear a dust mask while mowing and this has been effective at keeping my allergies under control. I have started using the Power Trac finish mower instead of my old Sears riding mower this year and realized that since this mower is in front you are actually driving into the dust cloud. I thought about getting a new dust mask since mine is at least 10 years old. I had seen a pressurized mask in a book once and started looking. I ended up with the Triton Powered respirator. It seems to work very well with a few minor issues.
1. It has an over night recharge. It runs for four hours so I can live with this for mowing.
2. The face mask has some distortion and I would not want to use it for fine wood working, although others evidently do. I will probably try it anyway.

I have attached a link below.

The powered face masks do work very well for woodworking, especially woodturning, where you may be generating a lot of airborn dust that may be highly allergenic. Those who turn spalted woods or stone probably want to strongly minimize the dust they might breath in. Because of the stream of air they don't get too hot either, although I do prefer to be unmasked when I can be so.

I have used my powered mask once for mowing, when I had to mow through a patch that contained poison ivy. It is definitely not something you want in your lungs.

Dear Bob,

Sorry to hear about the sinus infection.

These are also recommended for people with facial hair since the postive pressure helps keep dust from being inhaled around the corners of the mask.

I hope that the 4 hour run time works well for you.

Keep us posted!

All the best,

Peter

There is not a lot of air flow, just enough. I did not get real hot, but I did not feel much of a breeze. They have it set about right. If you flow more air than is needed then the air filters have to handle more air and dust and fill up sooner. It would be nice to have a boosted cooling mode. Hey, I could add another cell to the battery pack and get more flow, it has two now.
