I just purchased 2 acres adjacent to my lot that has been used as
a storage yard for years. The prior owner was a trucker, and had
several old trailers, flat beds, trucks, and even a full size van
body trailer (46'). over the years, a buddy of his would bring
dump truck loads of fill, stumps, concrete, gravel, and kept
filling the edges making the lot more and more usable. for the
most part it was a swamp. I lived next to this for 5 years, and
the town was after him to clean it up, to the point that they
started levying fines. Last year I made him an offer to buy the
lot, if he cleaned the lot out. IT took 9 months for a scrap guy
to come in and cut up the iron, and take it away,, pick up truck
after pickup truck load. they also disposed of hundreds of heavy
truck tires, after cutting the rubber of the steel. I closed on the lot
this May, and spent the summer pulling some remaining debris out
and piling up a bunch of wood into a couple large burn piles, and eventually
the town dumped some shoulders/ditches there and I levelled it and
have planted grass. I do know that there is more "stuff" that I can't see, but
it is buried and I have no intentions of digging it up. Since the lot can
now be combined with my house lot, I wouldn't imagine it ever being a
problem if I sold the whole property as 1. You can't imagine the response
from the neighbors, this lot is a corner property, and the prior owner
didn't really hide the junk, so now they are all happy they don't have to
look at it! I was really the only house the could see it, but driving by
it was an eye sore from the road.
I'll have to take some "after" pics, as I do have some before pics I took
to use in the purchase offer etc.
