I have a thread in the LS forum http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/ls-tractors/313830-xr-3037-similar-owners-watch.html

Quick story is busted the HST filter open and really didn't notice till it started stuttering when I pushed the forward pedal. Then I figured out what happened.

I shut down till I fixed it and leak tested. Everything seems to be running like normal again. I am wondering if this was like running an engine without oil? Have I reduced a 50yr machine to 5?

I doubt you did any damage. Engine has pressure lubrication while the pumps are just flooded for lubrication. Also consider the temperature, forces and speed of moving part in engine versus the HST system I think you will not see any difference.

Most, if not all, tractor hydros of this size stroke the swash plate with hydraulic pressure from the charge pump. No oil, no pressure, problem immediately noted. At this time all the hydro components should still be well lubricated so unless you let spin for a long time after it comes to a stop, you have likely done no damage.
