Kubota BX22
I think the Kubota manuals must be poor translations or else I'm thick, but can anybody out there tell me what is meant by this sentence which appears under "3-Point Control System" on page 37 of the tractor manual?

"Hydraulic control lever is automatically returned to neutral position when the implement is raised at top position or down at lowest position"

I sure wish they provided a training video/CD with these machines

Bellweather,
Well, in my experience, with my BX 2200, that is a true statement. If I were to raise the 3 pt blade for instance and let go of the handle, it (the handle) would settle into the middle, by itself, after the blade reaches the top. Same for lowering. If I push down on the handle to lower the blade, once it reaches the full down position, the handle returns to the middle position. Hope that helps although I'm not sure if my explaination is any clearer than that of the manual.

You may not be seeing this happen. Some of the BXs had problems in that the level hangs not allowing it to slide. There are different ways to correct this. One is to spray WD-40 or like to the plastic and the level. If that does not work in the manual there is instructions on how to adjust the spring that controls this process. Last is to bend the level so that it alines in the middle of the slot. BE CAREFUL if you do this because you DO NOT want to put pressure where the level is connected. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your responses. My lever does not do this so it must be malfunctioning. The reason for the question is that I discovered that with the lever in the top position my FEL was not operating properly (goes up but won't come down). Once I moved the lever to the neutral position, everything was OK.
I guess that must be the reason why the lever automatically moves back to the neutral position?

There is a service bulletin out on this matter. On some of the earlier models, the lift linkage was hitting the PTO shield, and it had to be cut to accomodate free movement of the rod. Reassure that when you look at the right rear of the unit the linkage is not rubbing or making contact with anything. Primarily the rear PTO cover.

I have found that if I lower my rear hydraulics, and the MMM or implement hits the ground before the arms reach there full down position, the lever will stay down until it is manually moved back to the center. Moving the hydraulics up usually seems to work fine... I am not sure if there is a float position for the rear since it does not sound like the hydraulics are straing trying to lower it.

I've noticed that the 3 pt control lever on our BX2200 at work will hang in the lift position every once and a while. Our mechanic said we just need to pay attention to it, and make sure it goes back to the middle. You can hear the hydraulics straining when it stays up, and he said this could lead to the hydraulic pump burning out.

Don't tell me that. Now I'm worried that I may have damaged the hydraulic pump. I did about 20 min of operation with the lever up, and I did hear the pump whinning.

I doubt anything bad would have happened in 20 min., but I'll be sure to ask our mechanic tomarrow at work and I'll let you know.
